The Between the Celts and the Northern People project team continues to catalogue archaeological material and select sites for further specialist analysis. Among the locations already identified are:
- Brodno, Środa Śląska commune
- Bytomin, Głogów commune
- Samborowice, Pietrowice Wielkie commune
- Nowa Cerekwia, Kietrz commune
- Opočno, Hradec Králové District
- Staré Hradisko, Prostějov District
So far, the collected material includes ceramic fragments, daub, stone tools, and animal remains. These will undergo organic residue analysis, use-wear studies, and microresidue tests in the coming phases.
Nowa Cerekwia stands out as a central La Tène settlement with semi-sunken dwellings and evidence of craft production. Staré Hradisko, one of the best-documented oppida in Moravia, provides valuable comparative data from the late La Tène period. The other locations represent smaller open settlements dated to the Middle and Late La Tène, allowing us to explore local variation and intergroup interaction.
As archival and museum-based research progresses, we expect the list of sites to expand. Our aim is to include a wide range of settlement types in order to develop a representative picture of interactions between La Tène and northern cultural groups during this key transitional phase at the end of the 1st millennium BCE.
Future updates will include the first results of laboratory analysis and photographic documentation of selected artefacts.
