We are pleased to invite you to an online lecture by Dr Joanna Ewa Markiewicz, Principal Investigator of the project Between the Celts and the Northern People: Interactions between the Middle and Late La Tène Societies in Central Europe (Charles University, Prague).
? 6 November 2025 (Thursday), 19:00 CET
? Online lecture via Zoom
Her talk, Casting light on cast metals, explores the production and use of copper-alloy artefacts from the Iron Age settlement of Nowa Cerekwia in Silesia. Drawing on microscopic and XRF analyses, Dr Markiewicz examines how La Tène craftspeople shaped and finished metal objects—such as brooches, bracelets, and belt hooks—and how their work reflected both local traditions and northern (Jastorf) influences.
By uncovering the technological and cultural background of these artefacts, the lecture highlights broader patterns of interaction and exchange between the Celtic and non-Celtic worlds—central to the aims of our research project.
? Join us online and discover how Iron Age artisans shaped metal—and how metal shaped their connections across Europe.
